This clip is part of a YouTube video series for Merri Health that Lisa & I had the pleasure of doing!
It was a fun day chatting together, this was the first time we met, now great friends with so much in common.
Thank you to Tommy & the film crew on the day. More videos will be released in the coming weeks.
These videos were created with the intention of reaching people who do not realise they are an unpaid carer & can get support for themselves.
This was me for the first 5 years of caring for my daughter with multiple chronic health conditions, allergies & anaphylaxis.
At this stage we were yet to find out about being Autistic.
Supports for unpaid carers are vital.
Some of the statistics are alarming, such as lower life-expectancy, unpaid carers developing chronic long-term health conditions & also in many of our cases managing our own disabilities as well.
Unpaid carers save the economy $40 BILLION a year, yet these carers are often in poor health, face financial hardship & suffer social isolation. In my case I’ve completely given up a career which is also common.
We love the people we care for & love supporting them, but we do need a lot more support ourselves as well.
